From the many waterfalls and glaciers to puffins, whales, and stoic horses, find out why Iceland is currently one of the world’s top tourist destinations! Join us on our 9-Night photo tour from June 19th  – 28th, 2023. We will be driving the famed Ring Road and ferrying to the Westman Islands, covering more than 1,000 miles in all. We have spent significant time exploring Iceland and are ready to share our favorite destinations with you!

The tour will begin by 10am on Monday, June 19th at the Keflavik International Airport or at your accomodation in Reykjavik if you decide to come early. We will be spending the first few days in the south of Iceland visiting iconic waterfalls including , Seljalandsfoss, and Skógafoss as well as ferrying out to the Westman Islands for two days/one night where we will search for puffins on the grassy volcanic cliffs before returning to the mainland and venturing east to Vatnajökull, Europe’s largest glacier, for an afternoon walk on Diamond beach. From there, we will visit sights and waterfalls throughout the eastern highlands, spending an evening in the quaint port town of Seydisfjordur. From there we will make our way inland to Studlagil basalt rock columns and two must see waterfalls, Dettifoss and Selfoss. After spending the night near Lake Myva, we will travel to the northern fjord towns of Akureyri for two consecutive days of whale watching, horse back riding and soaking in thermal pools.. After departing Akureyri, we will drive around the scenic Troll Peninsula, stopping for another soak at the cliffside thermal pool in Hofsós before driving to Reykjavik for the final night of the tour.

 

Day 1

Monday 6/19                                               

Reykjavik to the Westman Islands

The tour begins by 10 am from Keflavik International Airport or if you arrive early, we will pick you up at your hotel in Reykjavik. We will visit Seljalandsfoss Waterfall before boarding a ferry to the Westman Islands (home of the world’s largest Atlantic puffin colony), where we will stay until the following afternoon. After a short ferry ride to Vestmannaeyjar, we will explore the island and visit the puffin colony before checking into our hotel, then stop by a local brewery and have dinner at the famous Gott Restaurant.

 

Day 2

Tuesday 6/20

Westman Islands to Skógafoss 

9 am departure
Visit the puffin colony again, along with other sites on the island including two active volcanoes. Before departing, we can stop by the local puffin sanctuary and visitor center. We will take the afternoon ferry back to the mainland, visit the famous Skógafoss Waterfall, have dinner, and spend the night at Hótel Skógafoss.

Day 3

Wednesday 6/21

Skógafoss & Vik

9 am departure
Drive a short distance to the town of Vik and transfer into 4×4 jeeps for a guided tour of a glacial ice cave. After exploring the ice cave, we will head back to Skógafoss for an afternoon hike to the viewing platform above the falls, followed by dinner and a toast to the longest day of the year! Room at Hótel Skógafoss.

 

Day 4

Thursday 6/22

Skógafoss to Höfn

9 am departure
Travel again to Vik for a quick stop at the renowned Icewear store, then continue to Vatnajökull, Europe’s largest glacier. After exploring the glacial lagoons and Diamond Beach, we will drive to Höfn for the night. Dinner at Kaffi Hornid.

 

Day 5

Friday 6/23

Höfn to Seydisfjordur

9 am departure
Drive through the east fjords to the small port town of Seydisfjordur, stopping at amazing viewpoints along the way.  We will stay in the historic Aldan Hotel and have a family style sushi dinner at Nord Austur Restaurant  – this dinner is included with the tour fee.

Day 6

Saturday 6/24

Seydisfjordur to Lake Myvatn

9 am departure
Drive through the Eastern Highlands with a stop at Studlagil Canyon basalt rock columns, then continue to Selfoss and Dettifoss waterfalls before reaching Lake Myvatn, where we will check into our hotel and have dinner at the family-owned Kaffi Biorgi restaurant. 

Day 7

Sunday 6/25

Lake Myvatn to Akureyri

9 am departure
Visit Gódafoss Waterfall in the morning before continuing through Akureyri to the coastal town of Hauganes for an afternoon whale watching tour. We’ll have an early dinner in Hauganes and then drive back to Akureyri, where we will stay for two nights

Day 8

Monday 6/26

Akureyri

9 am departure

The day will start with an Icelandic horseback trail ride or an optional half day guided fishing adventure, followed by an afternoon soak in the city of Akureyri’s newest attraction, The Forest Lagoon geothermal spa, followed by dinner at a local restaurant. Lodging in Akureyri.

 

 

 

Day 9

Tuesday 6/27

Akureyri to Reykjavik 

9 am departure

Leave Akureyri and drive the scenic Troll Peninsula, stopping in Hofsós for a soak in the cliffside thermal pool. Continue to Reykjavik for the last night of tour. Dinner and room in Reykjavik. 

 

 

 

Day 10

Wednesday 6/28

Reykjavik to Keflavik International Airport

We will transport everyone to Keflavik International Airport according to their departure times.
